Leadership Built Through Transformation, Growth, and Operational Reality
About Steven Waltz
Transforming Customer Operations. Building Organizational Value.
Steven Waltz is a senior customer operations and customer experience executive whose career has centered on a fundamental challenge: how organizations turn customer service from an operational necessity into a source of measurable business value.
Over more than two decades, Steven has led customer service, contact center, enrollment, and operational organizations through periods of growth, transformation, restructuring, and technological change. His experience spans healthcare, education, energy services, distribution, manufacturing, and outsourced business operations, giving him a perspective shaped not by a single industry, but by the recurring challenges organizations face as they grow and evolve.
His work has included building and scaling teams, transforming underperforming operations, developing domestic and global service models, implementing new technologies, strengthening performance management, and connecting customer-facing operations more directly to organizational strategy.
Throughout his career, Steven has led organizations ranging from developing teams to complex operations supporting hundreds of employees. His leadership has contributed to significant improvements in customer experience, operational performance, cost structure, workforce scalability, and revenue generation—including initiatives producing millions of dollars in measurable business impact.
Beyond the Metrics
Steven believes operational excellence matters—but that operational excellence alone is not enough.
Metrics such as service level, response time, productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction provide important measures of performance. The larger leadership responsibility is understanding what those measures are telling the organization about its customers, its processes, its people, and its ability to compete.
That perspective has shaped Steven's approach throughout his career.
Customer Service should not simply respond to problems. It should help identify them before they grow.
Voice of the Customer should not end with a survey. It should influence operational and strategic decisions.
Technology should not simply automate existing processes. It should create better ones.
And leadership should not be measured only by how effectively an operation runs today, but by whether the organization is becoming more capable of succeeding tomorrow.
A Practitioner’s Perspective
Steven's writing is grounded in practical leadership experience rather than theory alone.
He has managed the realities behind the strategies he discusses: growing teams quickly, restructuring operations, developing offshore and nearshore partnerships, improving struggling performance, introducing new technologies, navigating organizational change, and balancing customer expectations with financial and operational realities.
Those experiences inform the Executive Briefs and Articles published here.
The objective is not to present a single formula for leadership or customer experience. It is to examine the questions executives increasingly need to consider as customer expectations, artificial intelligence, workforce models, and organizational economics continue to change.
